I can't believe my eyes. I came up with that list of names in a fit of giggling late last night, as being the most ironic and unlikely place names in the faux-old-country style of Suburban Developments.

Who names a place "River Creek?" It's retarded. Next you'll tell me that there are actual places named:

Brook Stream
Pond Lake
Hill Mountain
Stony Boulders
Forest Woods
Culvert Gully
Meadowfields

With street names like

Road Avenue
Lane Street
Alley Parkway
Freeway Boulevard
Highway Drive

Maybe I shouldn't be skeptical ... Richmond and Colonial Heights both have streets named "Boulevard Ave."

Meadowfields community school

I THINK this is a gated community

I found this on Google

Lytle Properties - Forest WoodsForest Woods-located southwest of San Antonio, is a beautiful family residential subdivision with city water, electricity, paved roads on heavily wooded 1 -2 ...

But the site isn't loading.

I don't know what this is:

Is it just me or does Stony Boulders sounds like a porn star name?

We have a shopping center (actually it's a quasi-mall since part of it is indoors) here in Richmond VA, called Willow Lawn. A casual search of the area reveals: Not only are there no willows, but there is also no trace of a lawn! Willow Lawn shopping center has been at this location since at least the 1950s though, so maybe at one time there were some willows and a lawn.
But I doubt it.

Reading an account of the building of the Alaska Highway, I found one of these names. Some surveyors passing through one part of British Columbia asked a local what a stream they were going to put a bridge over was called. He said, "We call the crick." For creek, obviously, but not obviously enough apparently. When the bridge was done a sign appeared calling the stream Crick Creek.

Here on the Gulf Coast (i.e., the Mudflats) we get a lot of these supersilly names, courtesy of real estate developers without a clue - Mountain Glen, Rippling Brook etc. What we should be getting would be more like Mud Lake, instead. Ah, well. As you were.

I have more which I initially rejected because, although stupid, they weren't very funny, seeing as they were just a little too plausible:

Frogcroft.. Valley Knoll.. Hill Hollow.. Owlfields.. Raven Run.. Fox Pond.. Eagle Falls.. Otter Ridge.. Cliffside Estates (only funny in midwestern plains regions).. Rolling Glade.. Mill Cove.. Surf Harbor (merely stupid on the beach, but hilariously idiotic if found more than 50 miles inland)..

For the most unlikely place name I've actually seen, the grand prize has to be "Pouncey Tract" which is a locality in the Richmond area. The name makes me snicker inappropriately.
